One Union Square
Metronome, an artist commissioned piece that graces the front façade of One Union Square in New York, was composed as a gift to New York City by the building owners. This innovative art work symbolizes the intangibility of time reflected by the combination of elements and overall composition of the piece. Di Giacomo’s massive rock juts through the undulating brick wall to ground the work while reminding viewers of the many eons that have passed. In a clever play on nature’s ability to surprise, a small talus from the original formation has broken away and been moved “downstream” and to find itself embedded in a plaza serving an office building across the street from the larger work.
