This courtyard plaza serves a student housing apartment building near the University of Denver and was designed by Landscape Architect Nuszer Kopatz and constructed by Kiewit. Because the plaza is built on top of the building’s below-grade parking structure adding significant weight in the form of placed boulders was impractical and di Giacomo’s custom crafted rock formations. The design combines living rock, embedded in structured water feature frames with natural rock and moving water all coming together to animate this community gathering space surrounded by residential units.
